Content Guidelines

In short: Be nice

The whole of our content policy flows from: Be nice.

Does it mean you can't swear? No, swearing is part of modern language.
Does it mean you can't show yourself breastfeeding? No, we're european, non-sexual nudity is fine.

Generally, we don't like:

Content which is targeting hate, harassment, discrimination or dehumanisation aimed at individuals or groups.
Anything about a person or group that you wouldn't say to their face.
Anything you wouldn't say in front of your mom, or a law enforcement agent.
Stories containing information which is known to be false.

Does this create some grey areas? Yes. But stay on the right side of "be nice" & your content will have a long, happy life on UponA.

Introduction

Below are the types of content we don't want on Upona, categorised by severity and likely response. UponA reserves the right to apply these guidelines as it sees fit. The rules may be updated at any time.

Infraction type: Non permitted content

This is content we'll generally ask you to edit or remove. Repeated infractions may lead to an account ban / permanent suspension.

Selling, or promoting the sale of restricted items including - weapons, recreational drugs, live animals, animal trophies, alcohol, tobacco, sex toys.
Sexual solicitation - Discussing sex worker rights or regulation is fine, soliciting or advertising sex work is not.
Pornography - We do not allow pornographic images / videos of any kind (defined as those intended to elicit a sexual reaction).
Objectification - We don't allow images / videos or text which encourage the viewer to see another person or people simply as an object (sexual or otherwise).
Genitals - We do allow non-sexual depictions of the human body (for example nudism, breadfeeding, anatomical studies etc). In a non-sexual context, showing breasts is fine. Do not post content showing a penis or vulva.There are special provisions for minors, see below.
Child nudity - Children must be fully clothed when they appear in any photo / video.
Bullying and harassment - Upona is not a place to make personal attacks on individuals. You may criticise ideas & actions, but not personal attributes. Example of acceptable content: "Person x publicly said y, this is wrong because z". Example of unacceptable content: "I don't like person x because they look like y". UponA realizes this leaves a lot to interpretation, if in doubt, remember "be nice" and "would you say this to their face?".
Personal information - Do not post contact information, addresses, workplace information, government issued id numbers, medical information etc. about others unless you have their permission.
Graphic content - Images of severely injured / dead bodies may be shared to tell a personal story, to tell a human interest story or to describe acts or terror / war. These should come with public interest or scientific commentary as opposed to showing graphic images for their own sake / for gratification. Mocking those afflicted or making sadistic remarks is not permitted.
Intellectual property infringement - Upona doesn't assert ownership over anything you post to our service. You must check you have the right to post any content. If a copyright or trademark owner makes a valid complaint, we will ask you to remove it.
Deadnaming - Don't refer to a transgender or non-binary person by a name they used prior to transitioning, such as their birth name.
Misgendering - Take care to use the correct pronouns when talking to or about someone - for example, use their preferred pronouns when referring to a transgender or or non-binary person.
Misinformation - Do not share false information. Opinion is fine, conjecture is fine, obvious fiction is fine. Sharing provably false information presented as fact is not permitted.

Infraction type: Severe

This is content which will generally cause us to ban / permanently suspend your account upon the first incident.

Content promoting dangerous organisations - Content from, or support of dangerous organisations is not allowed on UponA. If the organisation threatens serious harm to a person, group of people, or a society in general, we don't want support for it on UponA. Examples; (1) Terrorist organizations, (2) organizations posing a credible threat to democracy, (3) organisations promoting descrimination against individuals or groups, (4) organizations promoting sex crimes.
Promoting crime - Discussing the legalisation of crimes is fine. Glorifying serious crimes & inciting others to commit them is not allowed on UponA.
Interfering with democracy - Attempts to stop or dissuade others from voting are not permitted.
Promoting scams - Including but not limited to ponzi / pyramid schemes, fake charities, fake or forged goods / services, selling fake information & selling exam papers.
Suicide / self injury - The promotion or glorification of suicide / self injury / eating disorders. We don't allow the posting of very graphic images or videos of these things. We do allow you to share stories about these topics but not in a way that would incite others.
Promoting adult sexual exploitation - We allow victims to discuss their experiences, but do not allow the promotion of sexual exploitation / sexual assault.
Hate / harassment - Do not use violent speech, dehumanising language, misrepresentation or expressions of disgust towards any person or any group of people. This is not limited to protected characteristics. Remember - "be nice".
Impersonation - Don't attempt to impersonate another person or organisation.
Spam - Don't send Upona unsolicited stories to others as an attempt to promote products or services. Don't post Upona stories on other services at high frequencies (either automatically or manually).
Doxing - Do not post personal information (e.g. real name or other identifying information) about a person who has intended to keep their identity hidden.

Infraction type: Further action

This is content which will cause us to ban / permanently suspend your account, then proactively submit details to relevant authorities.

Voilent statements / incitement to violence - We understand that sometimes references to violence are made in jest, for example "x spilt milk on my book, I could murder them!", but where language professes likely violence or incitement to violence, we will take action.
Child abuse - Not permitted: (1) promoting peodophilia, (2) sharing pictures of children (real or fake) designed to elicit a sexual reaction, (3) Promoting the physical or mental abuse of children.
Calling for harm - Do not call for harm to any individual or group.
Human trafficking - Describing experiences of human trafficking / exploitation is allowed on Upona, promoting these is not.
